I'll be home for Christmas ;)

[Photo attached courtesy of Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur (Winks.. free plug!) Staying there for three weeks. Look out! KL here, I come! ]

*************************************************

Hi there, if you are wondering why the absence of recent posts here, it is because my mind is a bit preoccupied with other stuff, like going home for Xmas holidays. I haven't been starving myself, LOL...never! Nothing and no one comes in between me and my happiness... my food! I am actually saving space....literally, I will tell you why. Anyone who has been to Malaysia will understand.

In a month's time, I will be on Air AsiaX ( Ahem! Free plug here!) flight to Malaysia. That in-flight nasi lemak better be good coz I will blogging about this trip and posting photos here....I am sure it will be fabulous! I will also be travelling up to my hometown Sungai Petani and stopping in Penang during this "food tour". Also on the card is a side trip to Singapore. I can't wait... are you excited yet for me?

My first meal would have to be at a roadside hawker stall. Join me then as I eat, shoot and post ;)

Sky bar at Traders Hotel KL

A bit of background on Malaysia here, it has predominantly Malay population hence the array of delights such as Ramly Burger, Beef Rendang, Nasi Lemak, Satay etc. I know that I will want to eat some Sambal Udang, Ikan Bakar, Sambal Kangkung, Sambal Petai.....oh, I will be in Sambal Heaven ;)

Not forgetting the Chinese dishes, I must also go for the Seafood Hor Fun, Char Kway Teow in Penang, Assam Laksa and Hainanese Chicken Rice. Oh dear, three weeks in Asia, will I be able to capture all this in a photo blog? I will try my hardest leh! The list goes on...Wonton mee, Prawn mee, Curry mee aka Laksa... YUM! Not forgetting Chee Chong Fan, Yong Tau Foo....Popiah and Dim Sum etc.

Not to be outdone, we also have those Mamak stalls that caters things like Tandoori Chicken, Roti Canai, Mee Goreng, Nasi Bryani and Indian rojak....yummy stuff.... the last time I went home, I couldn't get any Pasembur aka Indian rojak... it is the best, I tell you! Okay rojak buah is also good... aiyo...fight fight fight... I could try both dishes in the one sitting? It's gonna be tough.... I might have to propose marriage to a mamak guy!

Marinated Char Siew Pork Ribs

So I am all seafood out this week and for whatever reason, I was craving char siew pork. I am not a port eater but will occassionally eat lean pork. So anyway, I got some ribs, with no fatty bits from the butcher.

These ribs are marinated in soy, sesame oil, chinese five spice and basted in char siew marinade from a jar. The result...is yummo! Really happy with the aromatic smell whafting thru the house too.

Summer is here to stay......Spring, what Spring?

The only thing I like about this hot weather is the summer fruits, err, this is supposed to be Spring? It looks like Summer is here to stay....take a back seat, Spring...Oooh...is it Global Warming, do you think? Is it all hot air?

While you chew on on that thought, take a look at what I have been eating today....oh dear, eating this much fruit in a day is just wrong...I don't care what the dietician said. Lucky for me ..I am eating ice cream too.....can't have my body going into shock, LOL ;) This sure is yummy and cooling!

Garlic Prawns version 1.01

LOL ;) I bet that header grabbed your attention neh? Okay so this is my version of garlic prawns with chinese broccoli. The reason for the greens is because I don't eat enough veges.

Plus one would called me "Shortcut Jackie"..so everything in the wok pls...sambal chilli, fresh chopped garlic...rinsed prawn and broccoli and stir away. This is a meal for the starving, no messing around.. faster than a 3 minute noodles..okay maybe not, but faster than something, I am sure!!! Why the shells, you say? The shells traps all that chilli pesto and it is so much more fun to be sucking these... yummy too! Winks!

Err, will this be a stakeout or a take out?

My young boy is all grown up. He went out to a birthday dinner @ La Porchetta with his friends last nite. I had to drop him off at the restaurant and picked him up after. I was a bit worried about him being out after dark. Main street on Saturday nite is a bit scary!

So I began my little stakeout...spying on him, yup, he seemed okay with his bunch of friends, I will just pick up my takeout and go home. This is what I end up getting from the restaurant when I dropped him off. Delicious....pretty yummy stuff I tell ya...

I don't like these hot days ;(

I have been a bit lazy lately for good reason; as the temp rises, no one is allowed to turn on anything that will generate heat...that includes cooking...LOL

I don't like going out in this heat, let alone cooking, as it would make the house hot. Don't like BBQ either due to the flies... so it is just a simple prawn salad with seafood dressing for me last nite. I know, it is pretty lame. I promise I will make something fabulous soon.

King of Fruits

Another reason for heading home is the durian season....I love durians of all kinds! My sister tells me that it will still be around when I go home, so I am really looking forward to it.

I will always remember as a child, my late Dad coming home with durians and we all crowd around him on the kitchen floor, watching in fascination as he pry it open. He made it look so easy too but I can assure you that it is no easy task.

Here is a photo of some durians that I saw at the local supermarket here...they must have flown First Class as they seemed a bit pricey! LOL ;)

Dry Seafood Curry

Another favourite of mine is the mixed seafood yellow curry. Let's face it, I eat a lot of seafood so it's no wonder that I present another seafood dish. I guessed seafood is the easiest to cook, very short cooking time and very light. This curry however is a little heavy on the coconut cream side with reduced liquid.

The basics of all curry as below.

Err.. just had a thought for the next dish....barbequed chilli stingray!

Chilli Crab anyone?

I can't wait for December to get here because I am heading down to Singapore. I have been told that one of the dishes that I have to try is at Ghin Moh Block. You guessed it, it's the ultimate...Singapore Chilli Crab!

Anyway, this is my version. Nothing spectacular, that is why... I am going chilli crab hunting soon.

Uranquinty Bake Shop

Just a show and tell of what we had for our staff meeting recently. Campbell picked these up from Uranquinty Bake shop. It was yummy stuff!

Choc Tart was like Death By Chocolate, very chocolatey..  ;)

Cherry Berry Cheescake is....very smooth and creamy and sweet till you hit the berries and cherry....then it's like squinty eyes for 5 seconds, very pleasant...sweetness equates the sharpness of fruit...nice!

Chilli Mussels

Hi all, it's a bit cooler today, no heatwave... phew! So I drag out the wok and stifried some mussels..it's very easy.. tossed a bunch of mussels meat with garlic, chillies and lots of coriander and then add some beansprouts.. fantastic! Salt and pepper to taste.

I put a dash of Thai Fish sauce for that pungent aroma. You can find the fish sauce on any Chinese grocer or the Asian aisle in the Supermarket.. makes a lot of different to dishes.. it like you walked into a Thai Restaurant.. a nice aroma.. I luv it.

Profiterols are yummy...

It was too hot to do anything today...outside is 35°C and so I lazed around watching movies and eating yummy stuff. Now, I didn't make this dessert, I picked her up from Woolies earlier today. Dinner is just going to be a prawn salad. I will post that photo another day.

Presenting a super yummy profiterols dessert with custard creme inside..I  topped it up with choc sauce and served with fresh strawberries.
